IPFW Sweeps Weekly Tennis Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW's Daniel Kang and Anita Henestrosa were named as The Summit League's men's and women's tennis players of the week for their performances Jan. 31-Feb. 6.

Kang receives his second career award and first of the season after recording his first two victories of the season during the week. Playing the No. 3 position against St. Joseph's (Ind.), Kang notched a straight-set victory (1 and 0) over Danny James. Facing Dayton and playing the No. 2 position, Kang defeated Andrew Hanley, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Kang also picked up a doubles victory, teaming with Junya Saruta at No. 2 for an 8-3 win vs. St. Joseph's. His individual season record improved to 2-3.

Anita Henestrosa, IPFW

Henestrosa picks up her first career award after posting four victories at the No. 1 position, all in straight sets, during the week. Against Horizon League foes, Henestrosa blanked Valparaiso's Megan Barthles (0 and 0) and defeated Cleveland State's Maria Lazaris (1 and 1). Henestrosa also notched victories over Wittenberg's Leah Ann Miller (0 and 1) and Katee Sanderson (0 and 1) of St. Joseph's (Ind.). Henestrosa teamed with Alex Forsyth to go 4-0 in doubles play, including an 8-0 win over Valparaiso and 8-6 victory over Cleveland State. Her individual season record improved to 4-2.
