ELMHURST, Ill. - Southern Utah's Tessa Loewen and Western Illinois' Sammy Marshall were named The Summit League's Softball Players of the Week, while North Dakota State's Krista Menke was named Pitchers of the Week for their performances March 12-18.

Tessa Loewen, Southern Utah

Loewen earns her first career Player of the Week award after helping Southern Utah win its league series (2-1) against South Dakota. The second baseman recorded at least one hit in all three games and posted two multi-hit games. She opened the weekend going 2-for-3 from the plate with a double, a triple and one run scored in game, while in game two she was a perfect 1-for-1 with a double, three runs and a stolen base. Despite SUU's loss in the final game of the series, she was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run. For the weekend, Loewen hit .714 (5-for-7) with a 1.286 slugging percentage, .818 on-base percentage, two doubles, a triple, five runs, one RBI and a stolen base.


Sammy Marshall, Western Illinois

Marshall captures her second career Player of the Week award after helping the Fighting Leathernecks go undefeated (6-0) last week, highlighted by a 5-4 win over SEC opponent Kentucky. The infielder recorded at least one hit in every game, including three multi-hit games to go along with three multi-steal games. In game one of WIU's double-header sweep against Evansville, she went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Later in the week, the Naperville, Ill., native when 2-for-4 with a run in game two of a twin bill against SDSU. She ended the week with her best performance, a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs and two RBI. For the Week, Marshall posted a .500 batting average (11-for-22) with 10 stolen bases, nine runs and two RBI. On the season, she is a perfect 33-for-33 in stolen bases, second in WIU single season history and tied for sixth in league history.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Krista Menke, North Dakota State

Menke garners her second career Pitcher of the Week award and second-straight in as many weeks after posting a 5-2 record with three shutouts and three two-hitters. She struck out a season-high eight batters in the 3-1 win over UT-Arlington, picking up her first win of the week. She then went on to win the next four consecutive games, including threw three-straight shutouts against UT-Arlington (2-0), IUPUI (6-0) and IUPUI (11-0) and matched her season-high eight strikeouts again in game two against IUPUI. For the week, Menke fanned 45 batters, while yielding 30 hits, 12 walks and seven earned runs in 48.1 innings of work for a 1.01 ERA.
