ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW's Courtney Cronin and Southern Utah's Heather Black were named The Summit League's Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances Feb. 27 - March 4.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Courtney Cronin, IPFW

Cronin captures her first career first career Player of the Week award to along with seven career Pitcher of the Week honors. The senior led the Mastodons to an undefeated (4-0) weekend at the Marshall Invitational. She recorded at least one hit in every game, including three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games. She opened the weekend going 2-for-3 against Kent State with a double and three RBI and came back the next day hitting 3-for-4 with three doubles and one run in IPFW's second game against the Golden Flashes. The North Delta, British Columbia, native ended the tournament 2-for-4 with three RBI, a home run, a double and one run scored against Bucknell. For the weekend, Cronin posted a .571 batting average (8-for-14) with a .625 on-base percentage, 1.214 slugging percentage, nine RBI, six doubles, three runs and a homer. From the circle, she picked up the win against Marshall and a save against Kent State.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Black earns her second career Pitcher of the Week honor and first of the season after posting a 2-1 record with one save at the San Jose Tournament. She opened the tournament with a 7-2 win over San Jose State, striking out five and followed that up by picking up the save in game two of the day also against San Jose State. She recorded her second victory of the tournament against Santa Clara after holding them scoreless for six innings. For the week, Black struck out 10 batters, while yielding 14 hits, six walks, three earned runs in 15 innings of work for a 1.40 ERA.
