USD’s Hancock and UMKC’s Friese Collect Weekly Softball Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. - South Dakota's Morgan Hancock and UMKC's Deanna Friese were named The Summit League's Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances April 2-8.

Hancock collects her first career Player of the Week honor after helping the Coyotes post a 4-1 record last week and sweep its league series with Oakland. She recorded at least one hit in every game, including three consecutive multi-hit games against the Golden Grizzlies. In Friday's doubleheader sweep of OU, she went 2-for-3 with a run in game one and 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and a run in game two. To end the series and week, the freshman posted her third-straight multi-hit game (2-for-3) with a RBI and a run. For the week, Hancock hit .533 (8-for-15) with a 1.000 slugging percentage, .636 on-base percentage, two home runs, a double, five RBI and four runs scored.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Friese earns her seventh career Pitcher of the Week honor and second of the season after going undefeated (3-0) in the circle. She opened the week with a 7-3 victory over Missouri State striking out nine. The right-handed hurler then recorded a 9-1 complete-game win over South Dakota State, fanning 10 batters and allowing no earned runs. She struck out six more in the series finale against the Jackrabbits in a 12-1 win. For the week, Friese struck out 18, while yielding 11 hits, three earned runs and eight walks in 20.2 innings of work for a 1.02 ERA. In league play, she tallied 18 strikeouts and a 0.51 ERA for the week.
