South Dakota State's Waytashek Named Player of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State forward Megan Waytashek was named The Summit League's Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performances Jan. 7-13.

Waytashek earns her second Player of the Week award this season after leading South Dakota State to a pair of league wins last week. On Saturday at Fort Wayne, the sophomore forward hit the game-winner with one second remaining to give the Jackrabbits a 66-64 victory. She scored a career-high 30 points, behind a career-high six three-pointers, and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win. In the Jacks' 64-43 win at Oakland Thursday, the Lino Lakes, Minn., native scored 13 points with five rebounds and three assists. She had her string of 22 consecutive made free throws end vs. the Golden Grizzlies as she went 3-for-4 and has made 27-of-28 from the line during SDSU's current seven-game win streak. For the week, Waytashek averaged 21.5 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal per contest. She shot 54 percent (15-of-28) from the field, 57 percent (8-of-14) from downtown and 83 percent (5-of-6) from the line while averaging 33 minutes per game.
