Omaha’s Spenner Named Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – Omaha's Sami Spenner was named The Summit League's Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for her performance Dec. 10-16.

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sami Spenner, Omaha

Sr. // Columbus, Neb.
Spenner garners her seventh career Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honor and first of the season after a trio of top-three finishes, including a pair of event wins in the Mavericks' season opener at the K-State Winter Invitational.  The senior took first place in the long jump with a mark of 19'8" (5.99m), 11 inches better than the runner-up and claimed the title in the triple jump with leap of 41'1" (12.52m), more than four feet over second place.  She also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87.  The Columbus, Neb., native posted league-bests in all three events and would rank in the NCAA top-10 at second in the triple jump and tied for sixth in the long jump, however Omaha is not eligible for the NCAA Championships due to its Division I transition.  With this award, Spenner is tied for the most weekly awards in a career (7) in league history since 1997-98.

Previous honorees: 12/10 – Jenny Guibert, North Dakota State.

No men's award given, no teams competed.
