SDSU’s Potterveld, IUPUI’s Schmidt Earn #SummitWSOC Weekly Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State's Diana Potterveld was named The Summit League's Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while IUPUI's Catherine Schmidt was named the Defensive Player of the Week for their performances Oct. 6-12.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Potterveld earned her third career Offensive Player of the Week honor, and second in as many weeks, after totaling seven points to help South Dakota State to an unbeaten week that kept her team in sole possession of first place. Against Fort Wayne, Potterveld had an assist and netted the tying goal in a 3-3 draw. Two days later, Potterveld factored into all three Jackrabbit scores with a goal and two assists in a 3-0 victory over Oral Roberts. Potterveld's efforts moved her atop The Summit leaderboard in league goals, assists and points.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Schmidt earned his first career Defensive Player of the Week accolade after a pair of league victories during the week. Against defending champion Denver, Schmidt recorded her first career shutout while matching her season-high with nine saves in a 2-0 triumph. Two days later against Fort Wayne, Schmidt made three saves and yielded just one goal, which came on a first half penalty kick, in a 3-1 victory. Her performance led IUPUI to its first set of back-to-back Summit League victories since October 2011 and lowered her season goals against average to 1.40.
