ELMHURST, Ill. – Western Illinois' Sammy Marshall and Fort Wayne's Miranda Kramer were named The Summit League's Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances March 17-23.

Marshall garners her sixth career Player of the Week honor and second this season after hitting a perfect 11-for-11 at the plate last week as the Leathernecks won their first league series of the season over the Jaguars. In Saturday's doubleheader sweep, the junior shortstop tallied a double, two runs, a RBI in each game, while adding a stolen base in game one and four in game two. In the series finale, she hit a home run for her third extra-base hit of the weekend along with three runs, two RBI and two stolen bases. For the weekend, Marshall was perfect from the dish with a 1.000 batting average, 1.000 on-base percentage and a 1.455 slugging percentage. She added seven runs, seven stolen bases, four RBI, two doubles, a homer and a walk. With this award, the Naperville, Ill., native is ranked third in league history (since 1997) for Player of the Week honors (6) in a career. She currently leads the league in batting average (.547), hits (47), stolen bases (22/0.88 per game), runs scored (36/1.44 per game), and on-base percentage (.594) and second in slugging percentage (.826).

Kramer collects her seventh career Pitcher of the Week award and fourth of the season after going undefeated (2-0) with a pair of two-hit shutouts to open league play. In game one against South Dakota State, the left hander fanned seven batters and walked four. She closed out the series with her best performance of the weekend retiring 12 batters on strikes, while giving up no walks. On the weekend, Kramer struck out 19 batters, while allowing four walks and four hits and no runs for in 10 innings of work for a perfect 0.00 ERA. Her two shutouts on the weekend marked her league-leading sixth and seventh of the season. The junior is also tops in the league in strikeouts with 156 on the season and averaging 11.30 per game.
