Western Illinois’ Marshall, Fort Wayne’s Flenniken Garner Weekly Softball Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – Western Illinois' Sammy Marshall and Fort Wayne's Megan Flenniken were named The Summit League's Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances March 24-30.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Marshall collects her seventh career Player of the Week award, marking her second-straight honor and third of the season. She tallied at least one hit in every game last week, including multiple hits in four-of-five games, to extend her hitting streak to eight games.  The shortstop opened the week with her best performance in game one against Morehead State, hitting 3-for-4 with her first career grand slam, four RBI, two runs and a stolen base.  In game two of the double-header, she added two hits with a triple, a RBI and a run.  The junior went 2-for-4 in each of the final two games of the league series vs. South Dakota State, chipping in a home run, two runs, a RBI and a stolen base in game two on Saturday and a run and a stolen base in the series finale on Sunday.  On the week, Marshall hit a .526 batting average (10-for-19) with a .947 slugging percentage.  She also added three extra-base hits, two home runs and a triple, seven RBI, six runs and three stolen bases. With this honor, Marshall is tied for second in league history (since 1997) for Player of the Week honors (7) in a career. She currently leads the league in batting average (.543), hits (57), stolen bases (25), runs (42), and on-base percentage (.578) and second in slugging percentage (.848).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Megan Flenniken, Fort Wayne

Flenniken earns her third career Pitcher of the Week honor and second of the season after striking out a career-high 12 batters in a complete-game win over South Dakota.  The right-handed hurler allowed three hits, one earned run and one walk in seven innings of work for a 1.00 ERA. She leads the league in ERA (1.49) and ranks second in strikeouts per game (6.31), shutouts (5) and batting average against (.182).
