DU’s Bunch and USD’s Schutt Chosen as Swimmers of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – Denver’s Dylan Bunch and South Dakota’s Sam Schutt were selected as The Summit League's Swimmers of the Week for their performances Jan. 19-25.

MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Bunch has been named Summit League Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season and for the sixth time of his career. Bunch competed in dual meets with Utah and Brigham Young over the weekend. He posted top-two finishes in the three events (200 free, 500 free, 1000 free) in which he competed against Utah. He followed that up with two wins against BYU in the 500 free and the 1650 free while finishing third in the 200 free and helping the Pioneers finish second in the 400 free relay.

WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Sam Schutt, South Dakota

Schutt is named Summit League Swimmer of the Week for the sixth time of her career and the fifth time this season. The sophomore was victorious in every event she competed, accumulating eight event titles during the span of two dual meets. During Friday's dual with South Dakota State, Schutt won the 100-meter (58.59), 200-meter (2:07.62) and 400-meter (4:28.25) individual freestyle events. She also anchored the 400-meter medley relay. In the relay, Schutt dove into the pool three strokes behind the South Dakota State anchor, but split 57.65 seconds in the freestyle leg to win the opening relay for the Coyotes. Schutt returned Saturday to break a six-year-old pool record and set a new school record in the 800-meter freestyle when she touched in at 9:11.32 in the dual versus North Dakota. Schutt then clocked times of 58.58 seconds in the 100 free and 4:28.82 in the 400 free to win all three individual events. She also swam a leg on the winning 400-meter freestyle relay.
