WIU’s Maher, SDSU’s Young Named #SummitWBB Players of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – Western Illinois guard Michelle Maher and South Dakota State guard Kerri Young were named Summit League Women's Basketball Players of the Week for their performances Nov. 13-15. The honors mark the first weekly awards of the 2015-16 season.

MICHELLE MAHER, WESTERN ILLINOIS
Sr.  // G // Park Ridge, Ill.

  • Earns her second career Player of the Week award
  • Averaged 15 points, seven assists, four rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in a pair of wins while recording a 4.7 assist-to-turnover ratio
  • Scored 19 points with three assists and three steals in a win over SIU Edwardsville while shooting 60 percent (6-of-10) from the field and 67 percent from downtown (2-of-3)
  • Tallied a double-double (11 points, 11 assists) in the win over Central Methodist along with grabbing six rebounds
  • Connected on a layup with 16 second remaining to seal the win over SIUE, who was receiving votes in the preseason CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll and was picked to win the Ohio Valley Conference
  • Scored her 1,000th career point in the win over the Cougars

KERRI YOUNG, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE

  • Collects her first career Player of the Week Award
  • Recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the win over Marist
  • Added four assists and one block in the nine-point victory
  • Marist was receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll and was picked second in the MAAC preseason poll

In its fourth decade of Division I athletics, The Summit League features women's basketball teams from nine member institutions: Denver, Fort Wayne, IUPUI, North Dakota State, Omaha, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Western Illinois.
