The Summit League Announces Week Six men’s soccer awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Week six of The Summit League men's soccer showcased the strength of the league as all six members did battled in the first full weekend of conference action. Omaha sophomore forward Diego Gutierrez earned his first career Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Eastern Illinois sophomore goalkeeper Jonathan Burke was named defensive player of the week for the second time this season.
Gutierrez led the Mavericks to their first conference win of the season with two goals, including the game winner against Purdue Fort Wayne. Gutierrez also added an assist for a total of five points. Burke and the Eastern Illinois defense shutout Denver, one of the nations top scoring units.
Offensive Player of the Week
Diego Gutierrez, Omaha

• Scored two goals and recorded one assist in the Mavericks 4-1 win over Purdue Fort Wayne
• His first goal against Purdue Fort Wayne was the game winner
• His five points are a career-high
• Gutierrez has scored or assisted on nine of Omaha's 10 goals this season
• Ranked in the top five of The Summit League in goals, assists and points
• This is Gutierrez's first career weekly honor

Defensive Player of the Week
Jonathan Burke, Eastern Illinois

• Helped lead the Panthers to a shutout against Denver, the Pioneers first since Oct. 25 at New Mexico
• Earned five saves on the week, including the only one he faced against Denver
• Played all 200 minutes for Eastern Illinois
• Earned his second career shutout
