Veteran trio take home outdoor season’s first weekly awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –Top 10 nationally-ranked performances to start off the outdoor season have earned three athletes Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors. North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl claimed the honor on the men's side, while teammate Bailey Retzlaff and North Dakota's Molli Detloff share the title on the women's side.

Otterdahl bested his own discus school record at the first outdoor meet of the year with a throw of 196-8 (59.96m) to win the event at the Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by Arizona State, while Retzlaff threw a personal-best in the hammer throw with a toss of 197-8 (60.26m) and won the shot put event with a throw of 53-07.50 (16.34m). Detloff headlined the UND throwing team at the Incarnate Word Spring Break Classic with a toss of 213-5 (65.06m) to win the hammer throw.

Payton Otterdahl, North Dakota State
 Senior | Throws

  • Won the discus (196-9) and hammer (220-1) at the Baldy Castillo Invitational
  • Ranks second in the NCAA in the discus and third in the nation in the hammer
  • Broke his own discus school record and tossed a personal-best mark by 20 feet in the hammer throw

Molli Detloff, North Dakota
 Senior | Throws

  • Won the discus with a mark of 170-8 and the hammer with a 213-5 throw at the Incarnate Word Spring Break Classic
  • Currently leads the league in both events
  • Sits atop the nation in the hammer throw and ranks 11th in the discus

Bailey Retzlaff, North Dakota State
 Junior | Throws

  • Won the shot put with a launch of 53-07.50 and took fourth in the hammer with a mark of 197-8 at the Baldy Castillo Invitational
  • Leads the NCAA in the shot put
  • Ranks eighth in the nation in the hammer
