NDSU's Ward is third Bison to earn #SummitMBB award this season
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State's Tyson Ward became the third different Bison to earn the #SummitMBB weekly award, league officials announced Monday. Ward joins teammates Rocky Kreuser (Week 5) and Vinnie Shahid (Week 6) in claiming the honor this season for NDSU.
South Dakota was the last Summit League team to have three different players earn the award in the same season when Trey Burch-Manning, Tyler Flack, and Matt Mooney all earned it once during the 2016-17 campaign.
Ward was a key figure in leading the Bison back to the top of the league standings at 4-1 with back-to-back victories. He averaged 20.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 5.5 apg in wins over South Dakota and North Dakota.
In NDSU's 72-70 victory over the Coyotes, Ward hit the game-winning basket with a 1.2 seconds to play, finishing a 6-for-9 effort from the field. He added five assists and four rebounds to go with his 14 points.
Ward capped his week with a double-double against the rival Fighting Hawks, going for a season-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. He also equaled his season-high with six assists.
In the two victories, Ward shot 55 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.
