Purdue Fort Wayne sweeps first #SummitBSB weekly awards
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The collegiate baseball season got underway this past weekend and Purdue Fort Wayne took three of four from Longwood as first-year head coach Doug Schreiber made his Mastodons' debut. And, two of his players were honored by league officials Monday for their efforts as righthander Tyler Kissinger and shortstop Jack Long earned the first #SummitBSB weekly accolades of the season.
Kissinger collected the pitching accolade after firing 6.1 scoreless innings during an 11-0 victory in game three of the series. The senior and Fort Wayne native allowed just three hits and struck out a career-high eight batters.
Lang earned the player accolade after being one of three Summit League players to hit over .400 during the opening weekend, going 6-for-14 at the plate with a league-best five RBI. He had a pair of three-hit games in the series, which established new career-highs and scored four runs, had three doubles and stole two bases while not making an error in nine chances at shortstop.
