ISU’s Le Gal Perez and Denver's Riedmiller earn tennis weekly awards
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Illinois State men's tennis athlete Diego Le Gal Perez and Denver women's tennis athlete Anna Riedmiller received this week's Summit League athlete of the week awards after stellar performances during their respective team's matches. This is the first weekly honor for Le Gal Perez in his career, while this is Riedmiller's second career honor.
Le Gal Perez guided the Redbirds to victories against Chicago State and Green Bay. Against the Cougars, Le Gal Perez teamed with Brandon Lew at the third doubles position, posting a 6-4 victory. In singles action, the Madrid, Spain native recorded a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win at the No. 3 spot. Against the Phoenix, Le Gal Perez and Lew got the Redbirds off to a good start with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot. In singles action, Le Gal Perez recorded another come-from-behind win at the No. 3 spot, posting a 0-6, 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
On the women's side, Riedmiller and doubles partner Camille Verden-Anderson logged Denver's lone victory in doubles play with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot againsat BYU. In singles action, the Wichita, Kan., native posted a come-from-behind victory at the No. 2 spot (4-6, 6-1, 6-2). Against Utah, Riedmiller and Verde-Anderson once again earned the Pioneers the only doubles win with a 6-2 victory at the second spot. Riedmiller carried that success into singles competition where she won 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
