UND’s Buth and Denver's Melville collect weekly accolades
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota's Lukas Buth earned Male Tennis Player of the Week honors, while Taylor Melville was named the Female Tennis Player of the Week as both programs opened league play last weekend. This is the first weekly honor for Buth, while Melville collected her third-career honor.
Buth and the Fighting Hawks opened the weekend against Oklahoma Baptist as him and doubles partner Andreja Petrovic earned a 6-3 win at the top doubles spot. In singles play, Buth earned a come-from-behind win at the No. 2 spot with a 4-6, 7-6, 604 triumph. North Dakota then opened league play against Oral Roberts, as Buth picked up a 6-2, 604 victory at the No. 2 spot.
On the women's side, the No. 45 ranked Pioneers opened the weekend by opening up league play with a 7-0 win against Oral Roberts. Melville and doubles partner Hada Chang, who are ranked No. 69 in the country, earned a 6-1 victory at the top spot. The Duluth, Ga., native then logged a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the No. 1 spot in singles action. Against New Mexico, Melville and Chang once again recorded a win at the top doubles spot with a 6-0 blanking. Melville closed her weekend by clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory.
