SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The 2021 Summit League Women's Championship bracket was revealed by league officials on Sunday with reigning regular season champion Denver earning the No. 1 seed after clinching the outright regular-season title following a home win against South Dakota State.
This is the sixth season that the Pioneers have won at least a share of The Summit League regular-season crown and enter the championship as the No. 1 seed. Denver claimed the regular-season title after defeating SDSU, 2-0, on Sunday and finished League play with an 8-0-1 record.
For the second consecutive season, top seed Denver will be playing fourth-seeded South Dakota at 1 p.m. MT in the opening semifinal of the championship. The Coyotes earned the No. 4 seed and look to make it to the championship match for the first time in program history. South Dakota tied Denver, 1-1, on Friday to earn the trip to the championships.
South Dakota State, the 2019 tournament champions, earned the No. 2 seed and will play in Thursday’s second semifinal at 4 p.m. MT and will take on No. 3 seed Omaha, who earned the third seed in back-to-back seasons and punched its ticket to the tournament for the third time in four seasons. This will be a rematch of the last season’s quarterfinal match, where Omaha prevailed on penalty kicks, 3-1.
The winners of Thursday's semifinal matches will play Saturday's championship match at 2 p.m. MT with the champion earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. All three matches in Denver will be streamed free of charge on thesummitleague.org/watch.
