SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State junior Baylor Scheierman claimed the first TicketSmarter #SummitMBB Player of the Week award of the season Monday, league officials announced. Scheierman collected the second honor of his career after averaging 11.3 ppg and 14.0 rpg to help the Jackrabbits get off to a 2-1 start.
Scheierman registered double-doubles in all three contests and was one of just two Division I players to achieve that feat in the opening week of the season.
He had 10 points and 14 rebounds in a home win over Bradley on opening night. In a tilt with No. 14/13 Alabama, he added 10 points and a career-high 18 rebounds against the Crimson Tide.
Scheierman closed out the week with a 14-point, 10-rebound performance in a road win at Stephen F. Austin. All 42 of his rebounds came on the defensive end, which is a total that leads the country.
For the week, the Aurora, Neb., native also distributed 13 assists in the three contests (4.3 apg), including a season-best six against Alabama and went 10-for-12 from the foul line.
