SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kansas City guard Evan Gilyard II was named the TicketSmarter #SummitMBB Player of the Week after leading the Roos to a pair of wins last week, including one over in-state rival Missouri, league officials announced Monday.
The 5-foot-10 graduate transfer from New Mexico State was also named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week, which is given out weekly by CollegeInsider.com to the top Mid-Major performer.
In the victory over the Tigers, Gilyard scored a season 28 points on the strength of a 6-for-8 performance from beyond the arc as the Roos defeated a Power 5 team for the first time since 2015. He finished 10-for-15 from the field, adding three rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Gilyard was only needed for 14 minutes in the Roos’ rout of Kansas City Christian, as he quickly scored eight points, knocking down 2-of-4 triples to finish his week 6-for-12 from distance.
