SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League officials released their league-only schedules Friday for the upcoming 2022 spring sports' season that includes men's and women's tennis, softball and baseball.
All four spring sports will have one more team competing in them as new league member St. Thomas will embark on its first Summit League spring season in 2022 after officially joining the league on Thursday, July 1, 2021. The Tommies will only be eligible to compete in the regular season for these sports. Northern Colorado became an affiliate member in the sport of baseball and will make its debut in Summit League competition during the 2022 campaign. The Bears are eligible for the league's postseason tournament.
2022 Women's Tennis Schedule
The seven-match women's tennis league schedule will kick off on March 5 and will run through April 16 with the #SummitTEN Women's Championship being held April 22-23 in Omaha. Teams will play each other once each Saturday during the league campaign. Denver, who has won seven straight regular season and tournament titles, will open its season at home against Omaha on Feb. 26.
2022 Men's Tennis Schedule
The seven-match men's tennis league schedule will begin on Feb. 27 and will run through April 16 with the #SummitTEN Men's Championship also being held April 22-23 in Omaha. Teams will play each other once during the league campaign. Denver, who has won seven straight regular season and tournament titles, will open its league season at home on March 27 against North Dakota.
2022 Softball Schedule
The Summit League softball schedule will be played over the course of seven weekends beginning with the weekend of March 26-27 with doubleheaders in day one of each series. The eight teams will play at least one league opponent for seven consecutive weekends until the conclusion of the season on Saturday, May 7. The #SummitSB Championship will be held May 11-14 in Brookings, S.D., after South Dakota State earned that right thanks to capturing its first regular season and tournament titles in 2021. The Jackrabbits went on to win a first-round tilt against Stanford, 7-1, in the 2021 NCAA Tournament played this past spring and will open the league-portion of its schedule at Omaha on March 26.
2022 Baseball Schedule
The Summit League baseball schedule will be comprised of eight, three-game series beginning the weekend of March 18-20. The League's seven teams will play the remaining six programs once with each team also having two designated teams to play twice during the season until its conclusion on Saturday, May 21. League newcomer St. Thomas and baseball affiliate member Northern Colorado will make their Summit League debuts during the spring season. North Dakota State, who won the 2021 tournament title, which was the program's first since 2014, defeated Nevada 6-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament played this past spring. The Bison open league play at Northern Colorado on March 25.
