#SummitMSOC all-league and individual awards announced

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League officials announced the 2020 men's soccer All-Summit League teams and individual honors Wednesday following the conclusion of the regular season that was completed this spring.

Omaha and league returnee Kansas City picked up a pair of individual honors each while Oral Roberts boasted the Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Golden Eagle forward Dante Brigida garnered the offensive accolade this season, following in the footsteps of Tanguy Guerineau, who claimed the 2019 honor. Brigida shared the league lead in game-winning goals with three and assists with five.

The two Mavericks honored were both Junior College All-Americans a year ago as Fitzroy Cummings was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Hugo Kametani was named the Newcomer of the Year.

Cummings started all nine matches at defender in his first year with the Mavericks, helping the defensive unit pitch four shutouts and surrender less than a goal per match. Kametani was the catalyst for the highest-scoring offense in the league.  He led all league players in goals (9) and points (20) and shared the league-lead with three game-winning goals.

The two Roos that picked up individual awards were Cooper Clark, who was named the Goalkeeper of the Year, and rookie head coach Ryan Pore, who was named Coach of the Year. Clark was second in the league in saves with 52, averaging nearly 4.0 per match.

Kansas City returned to the league after a seven-year stay in the Western Athletic Conference and Pore guided the Roos to a 5-4-1 finish in his first season as a collegiate head coach.

Cummings and Kametani were part of a league-high quartet named to the first team as that duo was joined by midfielder Nil Ayats and defender Stephen Siy on the 11-man unit. Brigida was part of a trio of Golden Eagles named to the squad as midfielder Juan Arias and fellow forward Reed Berry joined him in earning all-league honors for the second straight season. Berry was the third Summit League player to share league-high honors in game-winning goals as he also amassed three during the year.

Denver, who won the regular season title, also had three players on the first team. Senior defender Jacob Stensson made it four straight seasons in earning all-league honors and the third time he was a first-team honoree (2017, 2018 and 2020). Goalkeeper Will Palmquist was also a repeat honoree after earning first-team honors as well back in 2018.

Junior Liam Johnson earned all-league honors for the first time in his career to round out the Pios' trio. Clark provided the Roos with a representative on the first team.

Oral Roberts and Kansas City each had four players make the all-league second team, while Denver, Omaha and Western Illinois each had one representative.

For the Golden Eagles, defender Wanes Hobat and goalkeeper Miles Motakef earned all-league honors for the second straight year and were joined on the second team by midfielder Karim Diao and defender Josselyn Petel.

The Roos had a pair of forwards in the duo of Ryan Khedoo and Jony Muñoz along with a pair of midfielders in Kevin Komodi and Gustavo Leal Murtha each make the second team. Khedoo shared the league-lead with five assists, while Muñoz was tied for second in goals with six.

Denver forward Kengo Ohira, who led the Pios with three goals, Omaha midfielder Kenji Mboma Dem, who also had three goals, and Western Illinois defender Kyle Owen rounded out the second team.

The Summit League All-Newcomer Team consisted of six all-league recipients as Clark, Cummings, Kametani, Leal Murtha, Mboma Dem and Muñoz all earned that accolade as well. That group was joined on the squad by Kansas City forward Hugo Gutierrez, Oral Roberts defender Francisco Lopez, Denver defender Jake Mecham, Omaha midfielder Ed Port and Denver midfielder Ronan Wynne.

League runner-up Omaha will represent The Summit League at the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. The Mavericks have an opening-round matchup against UNC-Greensboro scheduled for 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 29.
