SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Western Illinois forward Amy Andrews and St. Thomas goalkeeper Olivia Graupmann were named the latest TicketSmarter Summit League Women’s Soccer Players of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Andrews tallied five goals and an assist in a pair of Leatherneck victories, while Graupmann recorded a pair of shutouts as the Tommies began their Division I era with a win and a draw.
Andrews tied a Western Illinois and Summit League single-match record, scoring all four goals for Western Illinois in a 4-3 overtime victory at Illinois State. Her record-tying goal came just two minutes into overtime as she headed home the game-winner to lift the Leathernecks to their first win of the season. She became the second Leatherneck and sixth Summit League player to score four times in a match.
In another 4-3 overtime victory three days later at Northern Iowa, Andrews added a goal and an assist to give her 11 points in the back-to-back wins. The Birmingham, England native was an All-League first team performer a year ago when she ranked second in the League with seven goals.
Her assist helped square the match at 2-2 in the 70
th-minute, then she put WIU briefly ahead in the 77
th-minute with her league-leading fifth goal of the season.
Graupmann came up with nine saves between the pipes to lead St. Thomas to a 0-0 draw in the program’s initial Division I contest. She made seven saves in regulation then added one in each of the overtime sessions.
The Excelsior, Minn., native was also credited with a shutout in what was the Tommies first victory in their Division I era, a 2-0 triumph over Chicago State.
