SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For a league-record sixth time this season, South Dakota’s Elizabeth Juhnke was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Volleyball Offensive Peak Performer of the Week, while North Dakota State’s Logan O’Brien collected her first career Defensive Peak Performer of the Week honor, league officials announced on Tuesday.
Juhnke led the Coyotes with 40 kills (6.67 kills per set), 24 digs (4.0 digs per set) and four blocks while hitting .443 overall in two victories last week. The Lakeville, Minn., native began her week setting a new USD record with 24 kills in a three-set match, hitting .524 overall in the win over Oral Roberts.
The nation’s leading scorer tallied her 13
th double-double of the season with a match-high 16 kills and 13 digs in a sweep of Kansas City. She made just three hitting errors to finish with a .351 hitting percentage against the Roos. Juhnke continues to lead the nation in total points (472.5), total attacks (1,034) and total kills (422).
O’Brien helped the Bison go 1-1 in league matches last week as the sophomore defensive specialist totaled a team-high 42 digs (6.00 digs per set). The Fort Myers, Fla., native posted a match-high 18 digs along with a pair of service aces in NDSU's sweep of Denver.
The following match saw O’Brien and NDSU snap Omaha’s streak of six consecutive sweeps as the sophomore led all players in digs with 24 and added a service ace in the four-set loss at Omaha.
