SDSU’s Murdzek, NDSU’s Wilkinson collect TicketSmarter #SummitWSOC weekly awards

Jackrabbits’ Murdzek, Bison’s Wilkinson garner peak performer weekly honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State sophomore midfielder Laney Murdzek and North Dakota State junior goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson received the latest TicketSmarter Summit League Women's Soccer Peak Performer of the Week accolades. Murdzek captured the offensive honor, while Wilkinson picked up the defensive award, league officials announced Monday.

Murdzek notched two game-winning goals, helping lead the Jackrabbits to a pair of home wins against Oral Roberts and Kansas City. Against the Golden Eagles, Murdzek scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute in a 1-0 victory.

Against the Roos, the Hudson, Wis., native registered her second game-winning goal of the weekend in the 80th minute. Her third goal in as many matches proved to be the difference maker in SDSU's 2-1 win. Murdzek finished with a team-high three shots against the Roos and with the victory, the Jackrabbits assured themselves a spot in the league tournament that will feature six teams this season.

Wilkinson picked up her fourth clean sheet of the season in a 2-0 win against North Dakota. The shutout moved the Bison into one of the coveted top-six spots in the league standings as they continue a late-season push for a postseason berth.

The Littleton, Colo., native finished with eight saves against the Fighting Hawks, making multiple key diving saves, including back-to-back ones less than a minute apart in the second half to seal the victory. It is the seventh total shutout of the season for the Bison, which is the most in a season under head coach Mike Regan.
