SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota’s Elizabeth Juhnke and North Dakota State’s Syra Tanchin were named the TicketSmarter Summit League Volleyball Co-Offensive Peak Performers of the Week, while North Dakota’s Kortney Carney received the Defensive Peak Performer of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.
Juhnke earned her 11
th career weekly accolade after she broke a Summit League and USD program record for kills in a match with 39 in a five-set loss to NDSU. Her performance set a new single-match high for the NCAA this season as well. The Lakeville, Minn., native’s 39 kills came on 71 attempts with just seven errors as she hit .451 while adding seven digs and three blocks.
In USD’s 3-2 victory over South Dakota State, Junke tallied her ninth double-double of the season with a match-high 19 kills to go with 10 digs. She played all 10 sets for the Coyotes and averaged 5.8 kills per set and 1.70 digs per set. Juhnke currently leads the nation with 346 total kills and is third averaging 5.24 kills per set.
Tanchin and the Bison are off to their first 5-0 start in league play since 2010 as the St. Michael, Minn., native registered a team-high 49 kills, 22 digs, five blocks, five service aces, while hitting .368 in three home wins last week. Tanchin totaled a career-high 26 kills with 11 digs in the victory over the Coyotes and followed up that performance notching 11 kills with a .476 hitting percentage in the sweep of Oral Roberts.
Tanchin rounded out the weekend with 12 kills and seven digs in the sweep of Kansas City. She currently ranks third in the league with 229 kills (3.69/set) this season.
Carney played in all 10 sets over the weekend for the Fighting Hawks, totaling 49 digs (4.9 digs per set) and 12 assists in three home matches. The Moorhead, Minn., native tied a season-high with 19 digs and put up four assists against SDSU.
In UND's sweep of Kansas City, Carney put together 12 digs and rounded out the weekend with 18 more digs, including 10 in the first set in a sweep of the Golden Eagles.
