#SummitVB Weekly Notebook: No. 7

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State and North Dakota had stellar weekends as the Bison swept both Oral Roberts and Kansas City to move into sole possession of first in the league standings, while the Fighting Hawks also swept the Roos and Golden Eagles to move to second in the league standings.

Omaha is moving on up in the league standings after winning three straight matches, including a sweep of Denver last night. The Mavericks are tied for fourth, while South Dakota (third) and Denver (tied for fourth) round out the top five teams in the league standings.

The third week of league play begins with South Dakota State heading to Macomb, Ill., where they will face Western Illinois tomorrow at 6 p.m. CT.

Cadi Boyer notched a career-high 16 kills in the victory over UST, while the Pioneer defense held the Tommies and Leathernecks to a 0.58 hitting percentage ... Against WIU, Denver won the third and final set 25-8 and led by as much as 17 points to finish the set ... Brianna Green finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Pioneers attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .556 ... The Pioneers hit the road for a pair of matches against Kansas City and Oral Roberts.

Kansas City allowed North Dakota to hit .245 overall, but it wasn't enough as the Fighting Hawks swept the Roos ... Peyton Van Nest was the only Roo to recorded double-digit digs in the match, finishing with 10 and added 14 assists for the double-double ... Against NDSU, Odyssey Warren finished with a team-high 10 kills, her 11th match in double-digits this season ... Kansas City hit .284 overall, their second highest hitting percentage of the season.

The Fighting Hawks snapped their 24-match losing streak at home with a sweep of Kansas City ... Elizabeth Norris notched her sixth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 assists to go with a .417 hitting percentage ... UND backed up that sweep with another one, taking down ORU to snap a two-game skid against the Golden Eagles ... The Fighting Hawks were led defensively by Kortney Carney's 18 digs, while the offense reeled off multiple runs, including an 8-0 run in the second set and a 5-0 spurt to open the third set ... This is the first time UND has won four its first five league matches since debuting as a Summit League member in 2018.

North Dakota State are off to their first 5-0 start in league play since the 2010 season as the Bison swept Oral Roberts and Kansas City to close out the second week of league play ... Against the Golden Eagles, Ali Hinze powered NDSU with 11 kills, seven digs and a career-high five service aces while Kelley Johnson just missed a double-double with a match-best 30 assists and nine digs ... Johnson came through once again against the Roos notching a double-double with a match-high 40 assists and 10 digs ... North Dakota State will host in-state rival North Dakota in a battle against the top two teams in the league standings.

Shayla McCormick led all players with 15 kills to go along with her .379 attack percentage in the win against Denver ... Olivia Curry had her third match in a row with double-digit assists (12) as she and Sami Clarkson (24) split setting duties.

Kalena Vaivai dished out 16 assists en route to collecting her 1,500th assists of her career against the Bison ... Vaivai and Kaia Dunford recorded double-doubles against the Fighting Hawks with the former dishing out 13 assists and scooping up 11 attacks, while the latter logged her team-leading seventh double-double of the season with a match-best 10 kills and 10 digs ... ORU returns home for three matches beginning with Omaha on Thursday and ending with Western Illinois on Tuesday.

Carrie Rutledge paced the Tommies with 16 digs, while Allie Kopp recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 assists and 12 digs.

South Dakota extended its winning streak against South Dakota State to 15 matches as their winning streak dates back to 2015 ... Elizabeth Junke tallied a match-high 19 kills and Lolo Weideman recorded a match-high 33 digs in the five-set victory ... Weideman was one dig away from a career-high and the libero tallied a match and career tying-high six service aces ... USD's 11-5 run in the fifth set is all they needed to close out the match ... Addtionally, USD held SDSU to a .189 hitting percentage.

South Dakota State battled in five sets against in-state foe South Dakota, breaking an attendance record in front of a crowd of 1,524 fans at Frost Arena in which the Coyotes prevailed ... In a match of the league's top two attackers, Crystal Burk impressed with 18 kills and registered a .224 hitting percentage, including a .462 clip in the first set ...  Burk has led SDSU in kills in all 16 matches and has six straight double-doubles and 13 total this season ... The Jackrabbits notched 12 service aces, falling just one short of the Frost Arena single-match record and three shy of the program's overall single-match mark.

Brittany Wulf led the way for WIU with 16 kills against the Mavericks, while Karli Wenzel was the lone Leatherneck in double digits in digs with 13 ... Against the Pioneers, Wulf led the way in kills with 12, while Wenzel and Wulf tied for a team-high with seven digs ... The Leathernecks will look to get on the win column in league action when they host SDSU and USD followed by a road match at ORU.
