#SUMMITWBB Weekly Notebook: No. 3

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – We have so many things to be thankful for this holiday season and one of those things is the fact that it's basketball season. The season is in full swing and this week’s schedule is highlighted by a handful of holiday tournaments in which four of our teams are competing in.
 
Denver is hosting the University of Denver Classic which begins Friday at noon MT as the Pioneers meet Houston Christian.
 
North Dakota will be at the GCU Thanksgiving Classic and will open up the tournament against host GCU at 3:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
 
North Dakota State is competing at the Nugget Classic in Reno, Nev., and will meet Boise State at 6:30 p.m. CT to start the tournament.
 
The Coyotes head to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Holiday Classic. They first take the court on Friday at 1 p.m. CT and will match up against Santa Clara.
 
The full week of Summit League women’s basketball kicks off today with Oral Roberts at Little Rock at 1 p.m. CT.

The Pioneers move to 1-3 on the season after falling 68-45 at Wyoming ... Emma Smith was the lone Pioneer to finish in double-figure scoring efforts pacing Denver with 14 points ... Mikayla Brandon followed with eight points and 11 rebounds while Makayla Minett contributed six of her own points and 11 more rebounds ... The Pioneers pulled down 10 offensive rebounds against the Cowgirls leading to 17 second-chance points ... This was the third time in Smith’s collegiate career that she finished with double-figure points ... Minett’s 11 rebounds were the second-straight game that she reached double-figure rebounds and eighth time in her career.

The Roos fell to 2-3 on the season after dropping games to Utah Tech (94-73) and Santa Clara (95-60) ... E’Lease Stafford led a trio of double-digit performers against the Trailblazers as she went 5-for-10 from the three-point line en route to a team-high 24 points ... Grace Graham followed finishing with 14 points to go along with four steals and three rebounds ... Sanaa’ St. Andre rounded out the double-digit scorers finishing with 12 points, four assists, a pair of steals and a rebound ... Defensively, Dani Winslow pulled down a team-best 12 rebounds for her third-consecutive double-digit rebound performance ... Against Santa Clara, Stafford once again led all scorers finishing with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists ... Jocelyn Ewell was the only other Roo to score double-digit points as she finished with 11 ... For the fourth consecutive game, Winslow pulled double-digit rebounds finishing with 13 on the night.

The Fighting Hawks suffered their first two losses of the season at Montana State (77-66) and Montana (82-77) ... Kacie Borowicz paced the Fighting Hawks through two games averaging 27.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg and 2.0 spg ... Against Montana State, Borowicz finished with 20 points, a team-high four assists and four rebounds ... Following Borowicz was Joli Daninger who finished just short of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds ... Nakiyah Hurst was the only other Fighting Hawk to score in double figures notching 10 points and pulling down four rebounds ... Borowicz dropped a career-high 35 points on 14-for-29 shooting against Montana ... She also pulled down five rebounds and dished out three assists ... Claire Orth was the only other Fighting Hawk to join Borowicz in double figures ... She scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists in the loss.

The Bison are off to a hot start for the 2022-23 season as they move to 4-0 after picking up wins over the Big Ten’s Minnesota (71-65) and Northern Colorado (68-54) ... Four Bison had double-digit scoring performances against the Gophers led by Taylor Brown ... Brown notched her second career double-double with a game-best 16 points and 10 rebounds ... Emily Behnke followed finishing with a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds while Abby Schultes contributed a season-best 13 points, five assists and five boards in the win ... Abby Graham rounded out the double-digit scorers finishing with a season-high 11 points ... In the victory over Northern Colorado, Elle Evans led four Bison in double-digit scoring efforts ... She finished with 15 points, five rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks ... Schulte followed chipping in 13 of her own including going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line ... Brown and Behnke rounded out the double-digit scorers finishing with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Elena Pilakouta led the efforts for the Mavericks through three games averaging 17.7 ppg and 6.7 rpg ... Against Weber State, she led five Mavericks in double-digit scoring finishing with 25 points going 10-for-12 from the floor ... Aaliyah Stanley (18), Sam Mitchell (15), Morgann Gardner (11) and Grace Cave (10) were the other four Mavericks to have double-digit scoring performances ... In the win over Peru State Pilakouta led a trio Mavericks in scoring as she finished with 18 points going 7-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe ... Kennedi Grant finished with 17 points while Ana Nikulochikina notched 12, both going 4-for-6 from behind the three-point line ... In a tough battle against nationally ranked Creighton, five Mavericks finish with double digits in the scoring column ... Stanley paced the team with 15 points going 6-for-12 from the field including a pair of three-pointers  ... Jaylen Townsend followed with 13 points including three three-pointers ... Pilakouta dropped 10 points for her fifth straight game with double-digit scoring efforts while Grant (12) and Cave (10) rounded out the Mavericks top scorers.

Oral Roberts fell to 0-5 on the season after suffering losses to Wichita State (89-67) and Tulsa (92-77). Tirzah Moore registered two double-doubles on the week to lead the Golden Eagles ... She averaged 13.0 ppg and 10.33 rpg ... Against Wichita State, Moore logged her second double-double of the season finishing with 17 points and a game-best 14 rebounds ... Hannah Cooper was the leading scorer for ORU finishing with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting ... Delaney Nix rounded out the double figurer scorers for ORU against the Shockers finishing with 13 points ... Nix finished with a career-high 21 points on 6-for-10 shooting from behind the arc against Tulsa to lead the Golden Eagles ... Moore followed with her second-straight double-double of 17 points (7-for-11 shooting) and 11 rebounds ... Ruthie Udoumoh was the final Golden Eagle to finish in double-digit scoring efforts notching 15 points to go along with six rebounds.

St. Thomas picked up its second win of the season defeating Presbyterian, 67-41 in St. Paul, Minn. ...  Jade Hill led the efforts for the Tommies finishing with a career-high-tying 24 points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists ... She was 8-for-15 from the floor, 4-for-6 from behind the three-point line and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe en route to her career-high-tying night ... Alexis Pratt was the only other Tommie to finish in double figures as she notched 10 points to go along with five steals, three assists and a rebound ... As a squad, the Tommies shot 41.8 percent from the field, 30.0 percent from behind the arc and went 15-for-21 from the free throw line to capture the victory.

Against Bellevue, six Coyotes reached double-figure scoring efforts led by Madison Grange’s 20 points on 7-for-8 shooting and a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the three-point line ... Carley Duffney contributed a season-best 14 points off the bench in the victory for the Coyotes while Walker Demers had a season-high 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting ... Nicole Avila-Ambrosi (11), Grace Larkins (10) and Alexi Hempe (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers against Bellevue ... Larkins recorded a team-high 17 points including sinking three three-pointers in the win over Saint Louis ... Jeniah Ugofsky poured in a career-high 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting while Macy Guebert finished with 11 points, four assists, three rebounds and a block ... Duffney once again finished in double-digit scoring recording 10 for the Coyotes.

South Dakota State moves to 4-2 on the season after going 2-1 at the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas ... SDSU opened the tournament with a loss to RV/RV UCLA ... Against the Bruins, three Jacks finished in double figures led by Haleigh Timmer’s 12 points ... Paiton Burckhard and Tori Nelson followed with 11 points apiece ... Despite the loss, the Jackrabbits were able to bounce back and pick up a 75-56 win over the Big Ten’s Rutgers ... Nelson led a trio of Jackrabbits to double digit scoring efforts as she finished with 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting, seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists ... Timmer had a 15 point performance that included three three-pointers while Burkchard went 4-for-7 from the floor en route to 11 points ... South Dakota State capped off the tournament with a 65-55 victory of #10/4 Louisville making it the first top-10 win for the Jacks in the Division I era ... Myah Selland led the efforts pouring in 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks ... Selland was able to seal the deal for the Jacks in the final 10 minutes of play going 4-for-4 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line ... Burckhard notched her third straight game in double figures as she tallied 10 points and five rebounds in the victory.
 
WESTERN ILLINOIS LEATHERNECKS (1-4, 0-0 SL) | @WIUWBB

The Leathernecks moved to 1-4 on the season after falling to Northern Illinois (100-61) but defeating Chicago State (59-45) ... In the loss to Northern Illinois, Mallory McDermott poured in a career-high 21 points to lead the Leathernecks ... Following McDermott in the double-digit scoring column was Anna Deets who finished with 11 points to go along with four rebounds ... Defensively, Alissa Dins hauled down 10 rebounds to go with three assists and a block ... In the victory over Chicago State, Zareia Chevre and Deets led the scoring efforts for the Leathernecks each finishing with 12 points apiece ... Chevre’s 12 points were a career-high ... Dins followed chipping in career-high-tying 11 points of her own ... As a squad, the Leathernecks held Chicago State to 28 percent (17-for-61) from the field and 24 percent (4-for-17) from behind the arc while forcing 27 Cougar turnovers.
