SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kansas City graduate student Rayquawndis Mitchell picked up the latest TicketSmarter #SummitMBB Peak Performer of the Week award Monday, League officials announced. Mitchell earned All-Tournament Team honors after setting a Gulf Coast Showcase record with 82 points (27.3 ppg) in the Roos’ three games in the Sunshine State.
Mitchell opened the tournament with a career-high 35 points, helping the Roos knock off a Toledo team that was ranked fifth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. He went 7-for-9 from the field, 3-for-4 from distance and buried 18-of-20 attempts from the charity stripe in the 83-71 win over the Rockets. The 35 points are the most by a Summit League player in a game this season.
In game two at the showcase, the 6-foot-5 guard added 18 points as Kansas City defeated yet another team ranked in the Mid-Major poll as the Roos edged 24
th-ranked Indiana State, 63-61.
Mitchell capped the week in Florida with a 29-point outing in a title-game loss to FGCU. Against the Eagles, he made a season-high five 3-pointers on eight attempts and finished 9-for-13 from the floor.
During the 2-2 week for the Roos, the Blaine, Minn., native averaged 21.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg and shot 45 percent from 3-point range.
