SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kansas City’s Evan Gilyard II claimed the latest TicketSmarter #SummitMBB Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Gilyard averaged 26.0 ppg and 6.5 apg as the Roos moved to 11-5 in league play with road wins at North Dakota and North Dakota State.
Gilyard opened the week with a 19-point, six-assist performance in an 80-65 win over the Fighting Hawks. He scored 11 of those points in the final 12 minutes after UND had trimmed what was a 19-point halftime deficit down to seven.
The Chicago native was even better in the Roos’ 85-71 victory over NDSU that kept them in the hunt for the No. 2 seed at the #SummitMBB Basketball Tournament. Gilyard equaled his career-high with 33 points against the Bison and added seven assists.
Gilyard’s layup with 4:45 to play gave Kansas City the lead for good at 66-65 and would total 10 points during the closing stretch to make the Roos winners of six of their last seven. He finished 10-for-16 from the field and 5-for-7 from deep against NDSU.
All five of Gilyard’s 30-point games this season have come in KC wins, which makes him one of two players in Division I that can make that claim.
