SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State captured a share of the regular-season title and will be the No. 1 seed at The Summit League Women’s Basketball Championship. The quest for a postseason tournament title for the eight-team field starts Saturday, March 5 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
South Dakota State (21-8, 17-1 SL) claimed the top seed by owning the final tiebreaker with South Dakota, who the Jackrabbits shared the regular season title and split the regular season series with. The tiebreaker came down to the team’s final ranking in the NCAA NET where SDSU edged the Coyotes 34-36. The Jackrabbits face No. 8 seed Denver (10-19, 5-13 SL) in the opening game of the four-day event at 12:30 p.m. CT.
South Dakota (24-5, 17-1 SL) claimed the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive season. The reigning tournament champions will play in Saturday’s second quarterfinal at 3 p.m. CT and take on No. 7 seed Western Illinois (14-14, 5-12 SL) in a rematch of Monday’s final regular season matchup. South Dakota is taking aim at its third consecutive championship title.
Sunday’s quarterfinal session begins with No. 4 seed Oral Roberts (15-14, 10-8 SL) against No. 5 seed North Dakota (15-14, 9-9 SL) at 12:30 p.m. CT. No. 3 Kansas City (22-7, 12-6 SL) faces No. 6 seed North Dakota State (11-17, 7-11 SL) at 3 p.m. CT to close out the quarterfinal round.
Monday’s semifinals begin with the winner of the South Dakota State/Denver matchup facing the winner of the Oral Roberts-North Dakota clash at 12:30 p.m. CT and will be followed up by the winners of the South Dakota-Western Illinois game and the Kansas City-North Dakota State game at 3 p.m. CT. All four quarterfinals and both semifinals will be televised on Midco Sports and streamed on Midco Sports Plus and ESPN+.
Tuesday's championships game is set for 1 p.m. CT and will be televised live on ESPNU and available on WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app.
All men's and women's games at The Summit League Basketball Championships can be viewed live across multiple platforms ranging from cable television to handheld devices. The coverage by Midco Sports and ESPN platforms marks the 13
th consecutive season that both the men's and women's tournaments are available in their entirety. Midco Sports' involvement dates back to 2010 while the women's title game will air on ESPNU for the 14
th straight year.
