NDSU’s Hamling nets TicketSmarter #SummitWBB weekly honors

North Dakota State’s Heaven Hamling earns second weekly award of season

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State guard Heaven Hamling secured this week’s TicketSmarter Summit League Women’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week honor, League officials announced Tuesday. Hamling put together a 28-point performance to guide NDSU to a come-from-behind victory over in-state rival North Dakota. Her efforts helped the Bison improve to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in League play.

The Bison trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half but were able to battle back in the second half. Hamling entered halftime with 10 points thanks to a layup in the closing seconds of the second quarter that cut UND’s lead to six (38-32) at the break.

In the third quarter, NDSU regained the lead at 43-42 on a jumper by Hamling. She carried that momentum into the fourth quarter where she dropped 11 of her 18 second-half points. Nine of those 11 came from the foul stripe in the final 2:18 to secure the 81-76 victory.

Hamling scored half of her game-high 28 points at the free throw line where she finished with a career-high 14 makes on 15 attempts. She also dished out a game-best six assists, pulled down six rebounds and notched four steals.
