DU’s Bruner garners season’s first TicketSmarter #SummitMBB weekly accolade

Bruner averaged 25.5ppg as Pioneers split a pair of games against Big West-foes

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver senior Tommy Bruner earned the season’s first TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week honor, League officials announced Monday. Bruner garnered the first weekly honor of his career after averaging 25.5 ppg and making all 21 of his free throw attempts as the Pioneers split a pair of games against Big West-foes.

Bruner opened the season scoring 23 points and dishing out three assists in a 95-87 road loss at UC San Diego. The Columbia, S.C. native also went 7-for-7 from the foul line against the Tritons.
 
In DU’s home opener against Cal Poly, the preseason All-League second team selection scored a game-high 28 points and set a Denver DI single-game record by going 14-for-14 from the free throw stripe.

Bruner also made four triples, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists as DU rolled to a 97-76 victory over the Mustangs. For the week, Borowicz averaged 25.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and 3.0 spg for the Fighting Hawks.
