SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the second time this season, Denver guard Tommy Bruner earned the TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week honor, League officials announced Monday. Bruner, who earned the League’s monthly honor for November, opened December with a 28-point, eight-assist outing against No. 13/12 Colorado State.
Bruner scored 15 of his game-high 28 points in the opening 20 minutes. He netted 12 of those in the closing 5:51 to help the Pioneers build a 39-35 lead at the break.
The Rams would rally for the victory in the second half, but the Columbia, S.C., native added 13 points after the break to finish with his six 20-plus point outing of the season. He finished 4-for-9 from 3-point range and is shooting 46.3 percent from beyond the arc this season.
Bruner also equaled his season-high with eight assists against CSU and now has back-to-back games with that total of helpers. He currently ranks fourth nationally in scoring at 24.0 ppg and ranks second among all Summit League players with 3.9 apg.
