SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the fourth time this season and ninth in his career, Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas garnered the TicketSmarter #SummitMBB Peak Performer of the Week award, League officials announced Monday. Abmas averaged 28.0 ppg in a pair of road wins and broke the Summit League record for career 3-pointers made last week.
For his efforts, Abmas also secured the CollegeInsider.com Lute Olson National Player of the Week award. It marks the third straight week that a Summit League men’s basketball player earned a national award. For Abmas, the Olson Award was the second of his career (Jan. 31, 2022).
Abmas opened the week with a 27-point performance as the Golden Eagles outlasted St. Thomas 95-88 at Shoenecker Arena in St. Paul. The Rockwall, Texas native added seven rebounds against the Tommies and went 4-for-11 from beyond the arc in the victory. His third make from 3-point territory broke the previous League record of 391 held by former Kansas City guard Michael Watson (2000-04).
He then added 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor, including a 5-for-10 effort from deep, during an 82-73 win at Western Illinois. It marked the eighth time he has made five or more 3-pointers this season and pushed his season total to 97, which is fourth among Division I players. Abmas now ranks third nationally in scoring at 22.8 ppg and is averaging 24.8 ppg during ORU’s 14-0 start to Summit League play.
