SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League officials released the men's and women's schedules for the upcoming 2023-24 basketball seasons Thursday.
Each men’s and women’s basketball program will start its League slate the week after Christmas and those will feature a 16-game, home-and-home mirrored schedule culminating on Saturday, March 2. With moving to nine full member institutions in 2023-24, the League revamped the previously approved schedule with assistance from an industry-leading scheduling consultant. The mirrored format is a result of numerous models ran that prioritized maximizing travel efficiency and balancing competitive equity.
The first games are set for Friday, Dec. 29 with eight of the men's and women’s basketball teams in action. The opening weekend of games will be played on Friday and Sunday before all nine teams take part in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge the first week of January. Those contests will take place on Wednesday and Sunday.
Following the challenge series, Summit League teams will return to a traditional Thursday-Saturday format for the remainder of the League season that culminates on Saturday, March 2.
The opening four #SummitWBB matchups include Omaha at Denver, Kansas City at Oral Roberts, North Dakota at St. Thomas and North Dakota State at South Dakota. Reigning regular season and tournament champion South Dakota State will open its title defense at North Dakota on New Year’s Eve.
During the opening day of men's action, Denver plays at Omaha, defending regular season and tournament champion Oral Roberts plays at Kansas City, St. Thomas plays at North Dakota and South Dakota visits North Dakota State. South Dakota State opens its campaign by hosting the Fighting Hawks on New Year’s Eve.
For the 15th-consecutive year, the men and women will culminate their seasons in Sioux Falls, S.D., as the 2024 Basketball Championships return to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, March 8-12. All nine teams will advance to the postseason. This year’s first round on Friday, March 8 will feature matchups between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds in both brackets.
