#SummitMSOC Weekly Notebook: No. 10

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- St. Thomas earned its first win of Summit League play last Saturday, edging Kansas City 2-1 on the road. The Tommies' victory over the Roos, who were ranked No. 22 by Top Drawer Soccer at the time, was the first for the program over a ranked opponent and they will get another shot at pulling off the same feat this Saturday with a home tilt against (12/7) Denver.

The Pioneers have been in the TDS top 10 for nine consecutive weeks and arrive in St. Paul after getting back on the winning track last Wednesday with a 2-0 home win over Omaha.

Despite the loss to the Tommies, the Roos remained on top of the Summit table with 10 points (3-1-1) but have played one more match than the DU (3-1-0) squad they will travel to play next Wednesday. The Pioneers and Golden Eagles are both sitting at nine points as this year's Summit League Championship will feature a single match with the top two teams squaring off for the league's at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas City will play host to Omaha Saturday as the Mavericks look to snap a three-game overall skid and have been shutout in back-to-back losses in Summit action.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
• Kansas City holds the top spot on the Summit table with 10 points but the Roos advantage is just one over a (12/7) Denver squad, who has nine points and played one less match, and an Oral Roberts squad, who also has three wins and nine points.
• St. Thomas picked up its first league win of the season, while dealing Kansas City its first loss. Forward Faris Colic secured his second brace in 2024, leading the Tommies to a 2-1 victory over the (RV/22) Roos.
• UST goalkeeper Moritz Krenc made six saves in the win over the Roos and now leads all Summit keepers with 70 saves and 32 in league play.
• The win was the first over a ranked opponent for UST since beginning the transition to the Division I level.
• KC forward Elie Kisoka scored his ninth goal of the season against the Tommies and now shares the league lead in that category with Oral Roberts’ Omar Mora.
• Kisoka’s three goals in Summit action are the most with eight players sitting right behind him having tallied two.

• ORU goalkeeper Joao Mesquita made four saves, including stopping a penalty kick from Mathis Pilon St-Louis in the 53rd minute to preserve his league-leading fifth shutout of the season and third in Summit play.
• Senior Sam Bassett helped DU snap a two-game losing streak with a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over visiting Omaha last Wednesday. Bassett now leads all Summit League players with 23 points. He has seven goals, which are tied for third most overall and his nine assists also top the charts.
• DU goalkeeper Isaac Nehme recorded his 25th career clean sheet in the win over the Mavericks. He made a pair of saves and is now just one shutout behind Nick Gardner for the Pioneers’ DI career record.
• The Summit League had six players ranked in the Top Drawer Soccer’s Midseason Top 100 players with Bassett leading the way at No. 1. He was joined by four Pioneer teammates and KC’s Kisoka, who was No. 69.
