NDSU’s Russmann, DU’s Wissman collect final #SummitWSOC weekly honors

North Dakota State and Denver collect the last weekly honors of league play

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State forward Morgan Russmann and Denver goalkeeper Molly Wissman were named the latest Summit League Women’s Soccer Peak Performers of the Week. Russmann collected the offensive accolade for the second consecutive week, while Wissman earned the defensive honor for the first time, league officials announced Monday.

Russmann secured the 2024 Summit League regular season title for the Bison by registering a second-half brace in NDSU’s 2-1 win over St. Thomas. Her 61st-minute goal pulled the Bison even at 1-1, then five minutes later the freshman found herself in the penalty box where she secured the go-ahead goal.

The Iowa native’s strike from the penalty spot was her league-leading 11th goal of the season and set a freshman program record for goals in the DI era. Russmann’s 11 goals passed up former Bison Lauren Miller, who put together a 10-goal season in 2013.

Wissman secured her 10th-career clean sheet and fourth of the season in the Pioneers’ 2-0 road win at South Dakota. The sophomore made four total saves in the win over the Coyotes South Dakota, which was one shy of her season high.

The New Mexico native also helped the Pioneers take down the Jackrabbits on their home field as DU secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. Wissman made three saves in the 2-1 victory over South Dakota State.
