SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The opening week of the men's college basketball season saw plenty to get Summit League fans excited about as new faces and old alike both provided some key moments in exciting victories to get the campaign underway.
South Dakota and South Dakota State both went unbeaten, picking up wins over fellow mid-major programs. Coyote newcomer Chase Forte led his squad in scoring in three USD victories and spearheaded a revamped style of play on both ends of the floor for head coach Eric Peterson. South Dakota will test its new style at Iowa on Tuesday.
The Jackrabbits logged the most impressive victory of the opening stretch, knocking off McNeese, who won 30 games a season ago and was a fellow NCAA Tournament participant. The Cowboys fell victim to relatively new lineup for head coach Eric Peterson, who got 18 points from redshirt freshman Joe Sayler and a double-double from transfer Oscar Cluff in the seven-point win.
Eight of the nine programs put a tally in the win column with only North Dakota still looking for its first triumph after a road game at UTSA was postponed due to travel issues and storms in Texas.
