SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With a 2-1 victory over Oral Roberts in the regular season finale for both teams, Kansas City earned the right to face top-seeded Denver in the 2024 #SummitMSOC Championship match. The second-seeded Roos and Pioneers will meet next Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. CT/2 p.m. MT in match that will be streamed on the Summit League Network.
The Pioneers, who are ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 and No. 2 in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25, clinched the regular season title with a 1-0 win over the Golden Eagles last Saturday in Tulsa and capped their Summit slate today with a 2-1 road win at Omaha.
DU won its 10th regular season title after finishing Summit play with a 7-1-0 record and 21 points. The Pioneers are seeking their ninth tournament title and will do so from the Denver Soccer Stadium where they will be hosting the championship for the seventh time.
The Roos, who finished 5-2-1 and with 16 points in Summit play, will be making third straight title game appearance after upsetting the top seed in each of the previous two tournaments as the No. 4 seed. KC fell to third-seeded Omaha a season ago in Tulsa and lost to second-seeded Denver in 2022 in a game also played in the Mile High City.
The Roos advanced by the Pioneers in a penalty shootout in last year's semifinals in the last tournament match between the two squads.
Denver and Kansas City split their two meetings during the regular season with the Roos picking up the program's first win over a top-25 foe since 2008 with a 1-0 shutout on Oct. 12. The Pioneers avenged that loss with a 2-1 victory at home on Oct. 30.
