SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Summit League women’s basketball programs went to work last week during the Big Sky-Summit Challenge to help retain the trophy in the hardwood challenge. The women’s efforts helped the league defeat the Big Sky 24.5-17 for back-to-back challenge victories.
Our teams look to capitalize on the momentum as they look at the week ahead. The week is highlighted by a handful of key matchups including a meeting between Kansas City and the Big 12’s Kansas Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT.
Additionally, South Dakota will host the Mountain West’s Wyoming on Sunday for a 1 p.m. CT tip while Oral Roberts will head to (10/11) Oklahoma for a 1:30 p.m. CT start.

2025 Basketball Championships
The 2025 #SummitWBB Championship will be held at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center once again. All nine members will be part of the field for the event that will be held March 5-9 in Sioux Falls. The opening round will feature matchups between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds for both genders and start on Wednesday with both title games set for Sunday on CBS Sports Network. AROUND THE LEAGUE
- Omaha is riding a five-game winning streak after picking up wins over Portland State (65-57) and Sacramento State (67-63) in the Big Sky-Summit Challenge. Grace Cave led the efforts for the Mavericks with a packed stat line. The senior guard averaged 13.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 5.0 apg through the two games.
- (RV/RV) South Dakota State is 7-2 and holds a four-game win streak after wins over Eastern Washington (81-58) and Montana (78-70). Through the two victories, Brooklyn Meyer was a constant presence shooting 60.0 percent from the floor while averaging 22.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 2.5 apg. Highlighting her Big Sky-Summit Challenge week was a career-high performance of 32 points on 12-for-15 shooting against Montana.
- With a 6-2 record after their split in the Big Sky-Summit Challenge Oral Roberts broke into the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll at No. 23. Taleyah Jones led the Golden Eagles against Northern Arizona (L, 87-80) and Montana State (W, 82-80 - OT). The junior guard averaged 24.0 ppg and 4.5 rpg over the two games. She also shot 42.9 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from behind the three-point line.
- North Dakota split the week’s competition with a home win over Weber State (73-69) and a road loss to Northern Colorado (65-47). Kiera Pemberton averaged 13.0 ppg and shot 69.0 percent from the field while pulling down 4.5 rpg through the two games.
- South Dakota also split the Big Sky-Summit Challenge competition with a loss to Montana State (77-46) and a win over Big Sky preseason favorite Northern Arizona (84-79). Against Northern Arizona, Olivia Kieffer shined in the final minutes. She buried three-pointers on three straight possessions in the final two minutes to lift USD to the victory. Kieffer finished with 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting, including 4-for-4 from three.
- Denver moved to 4-5 on the season after a win against Portland State (57-41) and losses to Idaho State (73-61) and Colorado (78-61). Jordan Jones finished with double-digits in the points column in all three games. Highlighting her week was 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists against Portland State.
- North Dakota State is 6-4 after a pair of wins over Montana (83-74) and Eastern Washington (74-47) and a loss to Tulane (67-61). Newcomer Marisa Frost made her presence known in the Big Sky-Summit Challenge averaging a team-best 20.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg. She also shot 75.0 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the three-point line. Her efforts earned her the latest peak performer of the week honor.
- Kansas City is now 3-7 after losses to Sacramento State (74-57) and Idaho State (67-50). Emani Bennett led the Roos on the week with 16.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg. Her efforts were highlighted by a season-high performance of 23 points in the loss to Idaho State.
- St. Thomas suffered losses to Northern Colorado (62-54) and Idaho (76-54) to move to 6-4 on the season. The highlight of the week was a pair of 19-point and five-rebound performances from Amber Scalia and Jo Langbehn against Northern Colorado. Langbehn was 7-for-10 from the floor and also added three assists and three steals to her stat line against UNC.
