#SUMMITWBB Weekly Notebook: No. 13

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – One month. That’s all that remains until our nine teams make the trek to Sioux Falls, S.D., for a chance at the 2024 Summit League Women’s Basketball crown. That journey continues Thursday with eight of our teams taking the court at 7 p.m. CT.
 
South Dakota State continues to sit atop the League standings with an undefeated League record and an 11-game winning streak. The Jackrabbits look to keep that streak alive as they head to Tulsa, Okla., to meet the Golden Eagles, who currently sit tied for third.
 
St. Thomas, currently tied with ORU for third in the League standings, is headed into the week with a three-game winning streak. The Tommies are looking to capitalize on the momentum as they head to ORU on Thursday and host the Denver Pioneers on Saturday.
 
The Pioneers have a little extra pep in their step going into this week after picking up two weeks last week. They look to capture two more as they host South Dakota on Thursday and go to St. Thomas on Saturday.
 
All of this week’s games will be streamed live on the Summit League Network.

Denver moved to 3-6 in League play after capturing two home wins over Kansas City and Oral Roberts ... Against the Roos, Jordan Jones, Makayla Minett and Angelina Robles combined for 50 of the Pioneers’ 65 points ... Jones paced the efforts with 20 points and six rebounds ... Minett notched a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds while Robles contributed 12 points, four assists and four steals ... In the 102-92 victory over the Golden Eagles, the Pioneers saw four reach double digits in the scoring column ... Jones once again led the charge going 9-for-11 from the field for 24 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal ... Robles chipped in 22 points and four assists while Mary Wilson added 18 points ... Emma Smith rounded out the double-figure performers as she finished with 16 points as well as a team-high nine assists, six rebounds, and three steals ... Denver hosts South Dakota on Thursday and will go to St. Thomas on Saturday.

Kansas City fell to 1-8 in League play after dropping road games to Denver and St. Thomas ... Against the Pioneers, Alayna Contreras and Nariyah Simmons were the only two Roos to reach double digits in the scoring column ... Contreras shot 50 percent (6-for-12) from the floor en route to a team-best 13 points ... Simmons chipped in 11 points to go along with three rebounds ... Defensively Ifunanya Nwachukwu led the charge with eight rebounds, a block, a steal and four points ... The duo of Contreras and Simmons paced the Roos again against the Tommies each contributing 13 points a piece ... Contreras was 2-for-3 from behind the arc and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe en route to her 13 points ... She also grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists and stole the ball once ... Simmons added four assists, two rebounds and a steal to her stat line ... Kansas City remains home and will host North Dakota State Thursday and North Dakota on Saturday.

In the loss to the Coyotes, Kacie Borowicz led the efforts with her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds ... She also added four assists and three steals to the stat sheet ... Mikayla Aumer came off the bench and contributed 15 points to round out the double-figure scoring duo for UND ... She was 50 percent (5-for-10) from the floor, pulled down three rebounds and stole the ball once ... Against the Bison, Borowicz once again paced the Fighting Hawks as she finished with 27 points including going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line ... She also had a game-high seven assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals ... Kiera Pemberton was 5-for-9 from the floor and 10-for-13 from the charity stripe en route to 20 points ... She pulled down a team-best eight rebounds and dished out an assist in the loss ... Kiyah Hurst completed UND’s double-digit scorers as she contributed 14 points as well as four rebounds and a duo of steals ... Against the undefeated Jackrabbits Heaven Hamling netted a game-high 18 points with six rebounds, an assist and a steal ... Elle Evans was the only other Bison to finish with double-figures in the scoring column ... She tallied double-digit points for the seventh straight game with 17 points and six rebounds ... Defensively, Abbie Draper pulled down a game-high seven rebounds to go with six points ... In the 101-85 victory over North Dakota, Evans dropped a career-high 33 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line ... She also pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season ... Hamling followed Evans’ efforts reaching double figures in scoring for the third straight game with 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field ... Abby Schultes dished out a team-best six assists to go along with seven points ... North Dakota State will be on the road this week to meet Kansas City on Thursday and Omaha on Saturday.

Cooper was 10-for-14 from the field and 10-for-10 from the charity stripe en route to 31 points ... She added three assists, three steals and a rebound to her stat sheet ... Ruthie Udoumoh rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season ... As a team, ORU picked up 58 points in the paint and scored 18 points off of Denver’s 15 turnovers ... They also hit 20-for-22 from the free throw line ... The Tommies went 2-0 on the week to move to 6-3 in the League after picking up home victories over Omaha and Kansas City ... Amber Scalia dropped a game-high 30 points for her second consecutive 30-plus point game to help the Tommies propel past the Mavericks ... She was 10-for-14 from the field, 6-for-8 from three and 4-for-6 from the free throw line en route to her game high ... Sammy Opichka came off the bench and chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds ... Angelina Hammond (12), Jade Hill (11) and Jo Langbehn (10) rounded out the five Tommies that finished in double-figures ... Langbehn led a trio of Tommies in double-digit scoring efforts in the 20-point victory over Kansas City ... She went 9-for-11 from the field en route to 22 points to go along with four rebounds .... Scalia chipped in 15 points of her own and five assists ... Hill completed the trio with 12 points, a team-best eight assists and four rebounds ... South Dakota moved to 5-4 in League action after splitting last week’s meetings with North Dakota and in-state rival South Dakota State ... In the road victory over the Fighting Hawks, a trio of Coyotes reached double figures in the scoring column ... Pacing the Coyotes was Kendall Holmes as she finished with 15 points and six rebounds ... Grace Larkins followed with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists ... Natalie Mazurek rounded out the trio coming off the bench and contributing 11 points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal ... Against the Jackrabbits, Mazurek came off the bench and paced the Coyotes offensive effort going 6-for-10 from the floor en route to a team-best 17 points and six rebounds ... Larkins stuffed the stat sheet finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists ... Carley Duffney completed the double-figure scoring trio for the Coyotes as she came off the bench and scored 12 points, pulled down four rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and stole the ball once ... South Dakota will hit the road to meet up with Denver for its lone game this week.

The Jackrabbits continue to be undefeated in League play after picking up a pair of road victories over North Dakota State and South Dakota ... Against the Bison, Brooklyn Meyer and Paige Meyer led the offensive effort as the only two Jackrabbits to finish with double-digits in the scoring column ... Brooklyn led with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal ... Paige chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal ... With Paige’s 12 points, she surpassed 800-career points as a Jackrabbit ... In the victory over in-state rival South Dakota, Brooklyn once again led the efforts going 10-for-15 from the field en route to 22 points to go along with a team-best nine rebounds, two blocks and an assist... Paige and Ellie Colbeck each contributed 15 points apiece... Paige added a team-high five assists, four rebounds and a steal to her stat line ... Colbeck’s 15 points came from behind the arc draining 5-of-7 triples for a career high ... The Jackrabbits’ lone game this week is on the road as they meet up with Oral Roberts on Saturday.
