SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League officials released the men's and women's schedules for the upcoming 2024-25 basketball seasons Wednesday.
With nine members set once again for the 2024-25 season, the League is moving to a hybrid scheduling model for the men’s and women’s action that will see all teams play each other in home and away matchups on either Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday and also include some doubleheaders.
The opening week of the 16-game League slate will start right after the New Year Holiday on Thursday, Jan. 2 .
On the women’s side, defending regular season and tournament champion South Dakota State will open its campaign on the road at Oral Roberts, whose third-place finish at 11-5 was the program’s best since 2011-12 when the Golden Eagles finished second with a 14-4 mark.
The Jackrabbits bring a Summit League-record 47-game winning streak in Summit League play into the 2024-25 season. SDSU won its final 13 league games in 2021-22 and ran the table in each of the last two seasons (18-0; 2022-23 and 16-0; 2023-24).
The remaining trio of women’s games on opening night feature Denver at South Dakota, Omaha at North Dakota and Kansas City at St. Thomas. Last year’s runner-up North Dakota State begins its campaign Saturday, Jan. 4 against the Tommies in St. Paul.
On the men’s side, defending regular season and tournament champion South Dakota State hosts Denver in a rematch of the 2024 Summit League Championship title game in the newly renovated First Bank and Trust Arena. The Jackrabbits have won at least a share of the regular season title in six of the last seven seasons, while the Pioneers reached the title game a year ago as the No. 7 seed.
The remainder of the men’s opening-night slate includes Omaha at North Dakota, St. Thomas at North Dakota State and South Dakota at Kansas City. Oral Roberts opens play Saturday, Jan. 4 against the Roos in Kansas City.
