#SummitMSOC Weekly Notebook: No. 3

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Through two weeks of the men's college soccer season, Summit League squads have combined for 11 wins, six ties, while only dropping three matches. Oral Roberts and Omaha won both of its matches last week to gain some attention across the national landscape, while Denver remained unbeaten as well and moved into the top five of both national polls.

The Golden Eagles, who moved into the Top Drawer Soccer poll at No. 18, and Mavericks both received votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll and ORU joined the Pioneers and Mavericks in the West Region Top 10.

National Rankings (United Soccer Coaches/Top Drawer)

AROUND THE LEAGUE
• With a pair of draws earned on the road, Denver moved up to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 2 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll.
• The Pioneers played to a pair of 2-2 draws at Washington and (RV/16) SMU to sit at 2-0-2 through the opening four games of a six-game road stretch to open the campaign.
• DU forward Oje Ofunrein scored twice and had an assist in those two matches, earning a spot on the TDS National Team of the Week.
• Denver is ranked No. 2 in the USC West Region, while Oral Roberts moved into the top 10 at No. 6 and Omaha dropped one spot to No. 7.
• The Golden Eagles and Mavericks are both receiving votes in the USC Coaches poll, while ORU moved in the TDS Top 25 at No. 18 after both squads went 2-0-0 last week.
• DU’s Sam Bassett had a goal vs. Washington and two assists at SMU last week. He now leads all Summit League players and shares the national lead with four helpers on the season.
• ORU earned a 1-0 win over Cal Poly that saw goalkeeper Joao Mesquita make 11 saves to record his first career shutout.
• Junior Omar Mora converted a penalty kick in both ORU wins last week and added his second brace of the season in the 2-1 victory over (24/NR) UC Santa Barbara.
• Mora earned his first career Offensive Peak Peformer of the Week nod  and is tied for fourth nationally with five goals through four matches.
• The Mavericks posted a pair of 1-0 shutout-victories at home last week. Theo Klein converted a first-half penalty kick to lead Omaha past San Francisco.
• Defender Naz Astwood found the back of the net late in the first half of Omaha’s 1-0 win over Loyola Chicago. He also anchored a back line that helped goalkeepers Nathanael Sallah and Cole Stewart earn shutout victories between the pipes against the Dons and Ramblers, respectively.
• After falling to the (24/NR) UC Santa Barbara 3-0 in its home debut, Kansas City rebounded with a 3-2 victory at Missouri State. All three of the Roos goals were scored off headers as they won in Springfield for just the second time in program history.
• St. Thomas played to a pair of 1-1 draws last week vs. DePaul and at Milwaukee. Tommie goalkeeper Moritz Krenc combined for 13 saves in those two draws, including making nine saves against the Panthers.
