SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Thomas guard Miles Barnstable and South Dakota State center Oscar Cluff shared the latest Summit League Men’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week honor of the season, League officials announced Monday. Both players posted a 30-point game to open Summit League play as Cluff netted his third weekly honor of the season and Barnstable corralled his first.
Barnstable led the Tommies to back-to-back road wins to open conference play, averaging 25.0 ppg in victories at North Dakota State and North Dakota.
In the 89-85 win over the Bison, he went 6-for-11 from the field to finish with a team-high 20 points. The Sheboygan, Wis., native connected on a trio of 3-pointers and added three boards in UST’s first win in Fargo.
Barnstable delivered a career-high 30 points in the Tommies’ 88-80 win at North Dakota as they opened Summit League 2-0 for the third straight year. The Division III transfer finished 9-for-16 from the field, including a 4-for-9 effort from beyond the arc against the Fighting Hawks, while equaling his season-high in rebounds with five.
In South Dakota State’s lone action during the opening week of Summit play, Cluff put together one of the best individual performances of the college basketball season, posting career-highs with 30 points and 19 rebounds in a 91-70 victory over Denver.
Cluff had his 10
th double-double of the season by halftime with 13 points and 10 rebounds to help SDSU build a 46-19 lead at the break. He would add 17 points and nine rebounds in the second half becoming just the second Division I player this season to score 30 points and pull down at least 19 rebounds in a game.
He finished 11-for-14 from the field and 7-for-8 from the foul line. His 19 boards equaled the seventh highest single-game total in program history and were the most by a Summit League player in a game this season.
