SDSU’s Zgonc and Omaha’s Huss earn the Kwik Star #SummitVB weekly accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State outside hitter Sylvie Zgonc and Omaha middle blocker Emily Huss were named the latest Summit League Kwik Star Volleyball Peak Performers of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday. Zgonc claimed her first offensive honor of the season, while Huss nabbed her fourth career defensive award.

Zgonc topped the league in four categories across a dominating week for the Jackrabbits. The Jackrabbit junior tallied 47 kills, 53 points, 5.30 points per set, and 4.70 total points across wins over North Dakota, Oral Roberts, and Denver. 
 
The Hartford, Wis., native racked up 13 kills, nine digs, and three total blocks in a three-set victory over Oral Roberts. The reigning Summit League Player of the Year then recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs in a three-set win over Oral Roberts.
 
Zgonc followed that up with arguably her best performance of the week , notching 23 kills, nine digs, a .306 hitting percentage, and four total blocks in a four-set victory over Denver.
 
Huss led the league with 1.70 blocks per set and 17 total blocks across three matches for the Mavericks. The six foot five middle blocker ranks thirteenth in the country in total blocks with 109 and sixth in the country in blocks per set averaging 1.58.
 
The Fairbury, Neb., native notched five kills, a .714 hitting clip, and four blocks in a four-set victory over Kansas City.

The Mavs’ junior then earned four blocks along with three digs in a loss to the Tommies. Huss finished the weekend with her best defensive performance notching nine blocks and four kills while helping hold Oral Roberts to a .052 hitting clip to improve the Mavericks to 4-6 in conference play.
