SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha outside hitter Kali Jurgensmeier and South Dakota State middle blocker Sydni Schetnan were named the latest Summit League Kwik Star Volleyball Peak Performers of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday. Jurgensmeier claimed her first offensive honor of the season, while Schetnan nabbed her second defensive award.
Jurgensmeier surpassed the 1,000-career-kill mark during a 1-1 weekend for Omaha. The Maverick senior tallied 36 kills, 6.00 points per set, and a .303 hitting percentage across a win over Denver and a loss to South Dakota.
The Wahoo, Neb., native racked up a career-high 22 kills, nine digs, five total blocks, and a .375 hitting percentage in a four-set loss to the Coyotes. She then recorded 14 kills with six digs, and a .220 hitting clip in a sweep of Denver.
Schetnan led the league with 2.63 blocks per set and 21 total blocks across two four-set victories for the Jackrabbits as they clinched the outright regular season title, improving to 14-0. The 6-foot-5 redshirt senior ranks 12th in the country, averaging 1.47 blocks per set.
The Sioux Falls, S.D., native notched 14 kills, a .393 hitting clip, and eight total blocks in a four-set victory over North Dakota State. Schetnan then recorded 13 blocks along with five kills and a .250 hitting clip in a four-set victory against St. Thomas.
Schetnan’s 13 total blocks are tied for third most in a four-set match in Division I this season. The Jackrabbit redshirt senior also set a program record in a four-set match with 11 block assists against the Tommies.
