NDSU’s Koenen collects back-to-back Kwik Star #SummitWBB weekly awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State forward Avery Koenen was named the Summit League Women’s Basketball Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week for the second week in a row, league officials announced Tuesday. The weekly award marked Koenen’s fourth of her career and third this season.

Koenen poured in a season-best 29 points and grabbed a game-high 12 boards as the Bison erased a six-point fourth-quarter deficit to outlast Pepperdine 82-80 in overtime in their opening game at the Malibu Classic. The junior was highly efficient on the glass, securing seven of her 12 rebounds on the offensive end while knocking down a career-high 13 free throws.

The Montevideo, Minn., native carried her momentum into game two of the classic, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds to record her sixth straight double-double and lead North Dakota State to an 82-60 win over UTRGV.

The win over the Vaqueros was the eighth consecutive for NDSU and Koenen, who ranks third in the league at 18.5 ppg and second in rebounding at 10.2 per contest.
