Six #SummitVB standouts honored with AVCA All-Region honors

Sioux Falls, S.D. -- Six Summit League student-athletes were honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Tuesday as organization officials announced their All-Region teams.

The South Dakota State duo of Madison Burr and Sylvie Zgonc earned spots on the All-Northwest Region First Team and were joined by South Dakota’s Kamryn Farris and St. Thomas’ Tezra Rudzitis. Additionally, South Dakota’s Lauren Medeck and St. Thomas’ Morgan Kealy received honorable mention recognition.

Burr is the third Jackrabbit in the Division I era to earn an all-region honor, while Zgonc was recognized for the second straight season.

Burr was one of the best blockers in the country, as well as one of the most efficient attackers this past season. She ultimately finished the year with 139 blocks (1.34 blocks/set), including 25 solo blocks.

Offensively, the Goodhue, Minn., native totaled 259 kills and a .283 hitting percentage. Burr was named First Team All-Summit and made the Summit League All-Tournament team last month.

Zgonc, a native of Hartford, Wis., ranks 47th nationally in kills (451), 55th in points (4.34), and 39th in total attacks (1,233), while leading the league in kills per set (4.34) and points per set (4.77).

The junior was named the Summit League Player of the Year for the second season in a row and ended the season with 14 double-doubles for SDSU, a 23-5 overall record, and 16-0 mark in conference play.

Rudzitis established herself as one of the top offensive players in the Summit League, recording 400 kills (3.48 kills/set), 885 total attacks, and 426.5 points. Like Burr and Zgonc, Rudzitis was also named to the All-Summit League First Team, and she earned a spot on the Summit League All-Tournament team after leading the Tommies to their first postseason title in the Division I era.

Rudzitis ended her career with 1,096 kills, 1,213 points, 263 digs and 180 blocks. She ranked second in the conference in kills and her total of 400 set a new single-season career best.

Rudzitis played some of the best volleyball of her career in the second half of the season, notching double-digit kills in 15 of her final 16 matches. Rudzitis averaged 14.4 kills per match over that stretch of play and had 10 matches with a hitting percentage above .300.

Farris, who earned All-Summit League First Team honors for the second time in her career and was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row, dug out 536 balls this season, which ranked first in the Summit League and 24th nationally.

The Lansing, Kan., native averaged 4.74 digs per set and reached double-digit digs in 27 matches. She added 38 service aces, which were tied for sixth most in the League.

Kealy built on her impressive sophomore season with an even better showing during her junior season, notching 1,159 assists, which ranked first in the League and 27th nationally. The River Falls, Wis. native averaged 10.08 assists/set and earned Summit League Setter of the Year honors for the second season in a row.

Kealy was named the Summit League Championship MVP after facilitating the Tommie offense to the program’s first DI postseason title. The Tommie junior notched 19 double-doubles on the season with a career-best 52 assists coming against North Dakota.

Medeck earned all-region honorable mention honors for the first time in her career. The Coyote sophomore notched 345 kills (3.75 kills/set) on 978 attacks, with 239 digs, and 383.5 points during the 2025 season.

The Papillion, Neb. native joined Rudzitis, Kealy, Burr, Zgonc, and Farris on the All-Summit League First Team.
