Denver Men’s Tennis Claims No. 3 ITA Regional Ranking

DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team ended the 2024-25 season ranked No. 3 in the ITA Mountain Regional rankings, which were released on Wednesday.

Additionally, Denver came in at No. 18 in the ITA Mid-Major rankings.

DU successfully defended its Summit League title in 2025 and advanced to the NCAA National Championships for the 10th time in program history. The Pioneers finished ranked No. 50 nationally – their highest ranking of the year – following an 18-7 overall record and a perfect 5-0 in Summit League play.

Denver has now earned a top-three regional team ranking in each of the last five seasons.

Three Pioneers also earned places in the regional singles and doubles rankings, led by senior Daniel Sancho Arbizu at No. 1 in singles. The 2025 Summit League Player of the Year amassed a 30-5 singles record on the year and finished the spring season on a 16-match unbeaten streak. In the final ITA national singles rankings, he came in at No. 45 and achieved a season-high ranking of No. 24 earlier in 2025.

The senior is the third Pioneer to earn a No. 1 regional singles ranking, joining Henry Craig in 2015 and Enej Bonin in 2011. This is the third year in a row that Sancho Arbizu has achieved a regional singles ranking after sitting at No. 6 in 2024 and No. 10 in 2023.

Sancho Arbizu added a doubles ranking as well with his partner, freshman Theo Coats, ranking No. 4 in the mountain region. After teaming up for the first time in January, the duo went 17-3 together including 13-1 at the No. 2 slot for Denver. They finished with a 4-0 record in Summit League play and won 11 of their final 14 matches.

Sancho Arbizu/Coats is the 13th DU team appear in the ITA regional doubles rankings. Sancho Arbizu ended 2024 ranked No. 10 in doubles with then-partner Marvin Schaber. This is Coats' first ITA regional ranking.

Junior Raffaello Papajcik made it two Pioneers in the top 10 in singles, ranking No. 10 the region after a breakout fall season that saw him advance to the NCAA National Championships and become the first Denver men's player to win a singles match at the national tournament. Despite missing a month of the spring season with an injury, he finished 20-8 on the year in singles.

Papajcik becomes the 17th Denver singles player to achieve an ITA Mountain Regional ranking.

Denver joins Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, UNLV, Utah, Utah State and Weber State in the ITA Mountain Regional.

The ITA regional rankings recognize the top 10 teams, the top 20 singles players and top 10 doubles teams for each of its 12 regionals. The ITA Mid-Major rankings recognize the top 25 teams from non-Power-4 conferences.
